TaskBlue or Bark? A comparison for parents

Bark and TaskBlue do different jobs: Bark scans texts, email and more than 30 apps for worrying content and alerts you. TaskBlue reads nothing; it locks distracting apps when your child needs to concentrate. One point may settle it for you: according to Bark, the service is only available in the US, Australia and South Africa.

What is Bark?

Bark is a child safety app from the US company Bark Technologies for kids aged 5 to 17. It alerts parents to worrying content in texts, email, YouTube and more than 30 apps without showing them every message. It also offers schedules, app and website blocking across 19 categories and a location map. On the iPhone, scanning texts and photos needs the Bark Sync charger or the desktop app.

  • Alerts from texts, email and more than 30 apps, without parents having to read everything

When Bark is the better fit

You live in the US, Australia or South Africa and want to know when something worrying happens in your child's chats, without reading them yourself.

When TaskBlue is the better fit

Your child needs to concentrate on homework, revision or winding down at night without distracting apps, and you don't want to read or track anything.

Frequently asked

Is Bark available outside the US?

Only in two other countries. Bark says the service is currently available in the US, Australia and South Africa. In the German App Store, for example, only the Bark Kids child app shows up, not the parent app.

Does TaskBlue read messages like Bark does?

No. TaskBlue never sees your child's messages, browsing history or location. It only locks the apps, categories and websites you pick, at the times or places you set.

Can my child simply end a TaskBlue focus session?

Not just like that. It only ends early with the BlueTag or your 6-digit parent PIN. Without a PIN, your child has three emergency exits for the whole account, not three a day.
