TaskBlue or Salfeld? Parental controls compared

If your child has an iPhone, Salfeld is not an option, because the vendor says its parental controls only run on Windows and Android. For PCs and Android phones, Salfeld is a German product without a subscription; TaskBlue is made for your child's iPhone.

What is Salfeld?

Salfeld parental control comes from Salfeld Computer GmbH in Reutlingen, Germany, around since 1998. It protects Windows PCs and Android devices and is managed through a web portal or a free parents' app. For children with an iPhone, Salfeld itself points to Apple's Screen Time.

Where Salfeld is strong

  • A German company from Reutlingen, in business since 1998.
  • Pay once instead of subscribing: the licence runs for 12 or 24 months and simply ends.
  • Detailed limits for device time, internet, apps, websites and custom groups like games, shared across devices if you like.
  • Time vouchers as TAN codes that you hand out or your child earns with bonus apps.

Frequently asked

Is Salfeld available for the iPhone?

Not for the child's iPhone. Salfeld says its products only exist for Android and Windows and recommends Apple's Screen Time for iPhones. You can, however, manage an Android phone or Windows PC from your iPhone through a web app.

What do iPhone families use instead of Salfeld?

Apple's Screen Time is built in for free and sets limits. TaskBlue builds on the same technology and makes distracting apps disappear at set times, during calendar events or in certain places.

How does TaskBlue's price compare with Salfeld?

Salfeld costs a one-off €29.95 for one device and 24 months. A year of TaskBlue costs €49.99 once, a month €9.99, and the BlueTag comes with both plans. More on the pricing page.
